What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is a specialist area of the dental profession; tasked mainly with the treatment, study and care of the dental pulp. The dental pulp is the connected, living and responsive nerves, cells and tissue in the centre of each tooth. When the dental pulp becomes diseased, disturbed or injured, an endodontic treatment can be performed to save the tooth or, in extreme case, remove the troubled tooth.

What do endodontists do?

Endodontists may perform many practices to provide the dental pulp with sufficient care, including:

  • Endodontic Therapy – Commonly known as ‘root canal therapy’
  • Endodontic Retreatment
  • Basic to major mouth surgery
  • Attending to cracked or broken teeth
  • Treating dental trauma and distress

Why do I need an Endodontist?

Endodonists are highly trained dental health care specialists that cater for the majority of people. Unlike orthodontists, endodontists can serve a person for a wide range of issues and ailments for the majority of their life. This differs great from specialities like paediatric dentistry where a patient is only seen by their professional for a certain time period.

From the moment your teeth start to show they face potential risks that can affect comfort, speech, the natural movement of the jaw and could potentially cause you great stress and pain. The main source of this pain is usually contributed to the dental pulp.

Use the search function above and keep your mouth carefree and painless with the help of one of our endodntists.
